Ever wish you could take a photographer with you when you travel for holidays to capture all the fun your kids are having? I’ve got five great tips for you, whether you find yourself home in College Station or traveling to an amazing location! (Be sure to send me a postcard!)
AVOID THE GRUMPIES! Plan to take photos when kids have been fed and aren’t tired from hours of swimming and playing with friends and family!
FIND THE RIGHT SPOT! Andrea, Casey, and I spend a lot of time scouting the PERFECT location for your family sessions. While you may not have an afternoon, take a look around where you’re celebrating! An ideal spot for taking pictures has indirect sunlight – a pavilion or gazebo, or even somewhere indoors with lots of natural light.
RELAX! Kids will be kids and are likely ready to wrap it up and move onto the next fun activity. If you’re frustrated, they’ll quickly pick up on it. Keep it fun… and even offer a treat or two! (We love offering small candies, lollipops, and even a small toy or two at the end of a session!)
LET THEM HELP! If you have a picture that inspired you, show it to them and work together to find something fun! Chalk art, cute backdrops, photo booth props, and lots more can be found searching for holiday photos on Pinterest.
Most important of all…GET IN THE PICTURE WITH THEM! Remember that it isn’t about the Pinterest worthy image or what you can post online, but about preserving the special memories of your fun times together. Hand that camera over to another adult and SMILE! Years down the road, it will be those images with you will be the ones that mean the most.
