For the last few years, we have had the privilege of photographing the dancers at Suzanne’s School of Dance. Out of this, the idea for Prima sessions came to be!
These have very much become some of my favorite kinds of sessions to do… for many of the dancers, this is one of the first times they are putting their costumes on that will be worn during their spring recitals. Whether they are first year dancers or seasoned ones, they all LIGHT UP as they wear it.
Much like a little girl in a princess dress, a teenager headed to prom, or a woman in her wedding dress – a dancer wearing her costumes causes a change within her. Like a butterfly coming out of it’s cocoon, these girls become beautiful, colorful creatures full of poise, grace, and everything lovely!
Being a dance mom myself, I know how quickly these years go by and how special it is to capture all of the beauty and strength these girls display. It’s common for families to capture the milestone of sitting and that first birthday, but each time I get the opportunity to do one of these sessions – it’s a reminder that there are many, many little moments worth capturing as they grow.
